64 (who?)
Hear me read it

They will not silence the bells for you.
The roses will not halt their will to wilt
and lilies will disassemble under the earth.
They will not dust Frankincense over cities
and trees will not bow down in grief
willingly donating limbs to become tissues.

But throats will dry out mid-sentence and
black hankerchiefs will be dubbed into pockets.
There will be enough salt to melt the ice
embedded around the hearts of old enemies.
Old enemies will turn friend once more
and the church will be full, packed with love.

The world is unlikely to take a moment's prayer;
Earth spins too fast to pause for any of us.
But the meagre collection of people you touched
(meagréd only by the tear-ridden knowledge
that you would have touched many more in time)
Will ache tonight and whisper of your friendship.

You were and always will be; loved.
We were friends once, but we went our seperate ways in August 2012. Today I found out he passed away this week. I always thought there would be another day to fix things.

He use to drive me crazy... call me sis, ask my advice... usually about my friend that he was dating. We planned his proposal together... we conspired to get her gifts and flowers when she was sad... he drove me insane trying to convince me to watch dr who which he loved... and every so often he would say something that was comedy gold... I underappreciated him when he was around, and when a fight between myself and other people drew us apart I didn't fight to stay friends. So maybe I'm not entitled to feel this loss, but I do nonetheless, and I am sorry I wasted so many chances to repay his loyalty and friendship in kind.

Not many people knew him, but those that did loved him.. and will miss him a great deal.

This poem was obviously inspired by W.H. Auden.

I read this and wished someone might write such a poem for me when I pass away. But the written word could not compete with the read out words you recorded. The read version was the one that made me feel your sadness in such a way I almost cried. Maybe this poem can be the salt to melt the ice embedded around the hearts of old enemies so they, or rather we ourselfs might forgive each other in time.
