It is only a matter of time
until the stone lays down with the sheep
and sleeps.
Rested firmly above the holes
where our eyes used to be.

It is only a matter of matter
until epitaph and eulogy diminish to dust
and sleep
becomes the eternal home,
not where our souls used to be.

It is only a matter of fact
that our words will become reductionist, redundant,
and sleepily
the world will forget
where our words used to be.
I was thinking about gravestones, eroding as we do. Those final words to summarise us, even they do not live forever. How long will my legacy live for?

Did you know that if a gravestone is unstable (and could potentially fall on someones foot or something) then the gravestone attendants have to lay them down. As if the stone itself had died. Somehow this seems so so sad.

If it makes you feel better, when I grow up I'll make a little handwritten book with all you poetry and I'll force my children to pass it on to their children.

There is nothing inevitable
before the dirt lifts up the wolf
and it wakes.
Unrest loose upon the barrier
that the fangs made infont of mouth.

Inevitable is possible to avoid
only before the birth is etched into stone
and awakened
and homeless in this world,
the place where our bodies are.

The inevitable lie
that what we see will grow and change,
and actively
the void will find out
how to steal what we see.

This is really interesting there is a great sense of time moving in the piece and such a great sense of permanence even though the over all feel of things not always being the way they are. Beautiful :meow:

Hey, I was missing a comma before that line which probably made it confusing, sorry about that! but;

"sleep
becomes the eternal home,
not where our souls used to be."

means death becomes the home for the soul, not the body (where the soul used to be) which is left behind underground (in this poem)

Although the places I visited, the people I met
Although they are gone, washed away
Although I have my memory to remind me who you and I once were
How long will those young illusions fade away?
Into crumbling ash, like cremation they'll never rise
Buried under rubble and dirt, but why?

Random poem that was inspired by this. .-. I suck at poetry.

My mum used to sing me a song when I was little it went something like

Oh when I'm gone
and it won't be long
you're gonna be sorry
that you treated me wrong
you're gonna be sorry
that you treated me bad
and wherever I am
I'll laugh and I'll be glad

I once went and visited a graveyard that had always been on my grandmother's land. The land was bought by the government and turned into a highway, her house, where my father grew up, was knocked down. The graveyard is still there though. Anyway, the one time I visited that graveyard, I saw that some of the names had been eroded away and couldn't be read anymore. It's kind of sad that nothing is permanent, and no one lays flowers on those graves anymore. I wonder who those people had been, and if there's any way to make memories of people who've passed last forever.

Lovely poem, anyway, it just brought back that memory of mine. Your poems always make me think.

I read this last night half asleep and it made me cry. Because thats the precise reason why my sister was cremated and placed at the top of the highest cliff in Dorset. SO she could be part of the earth sea and wind.
