eugenics
eugenicsi am 31% toxicity induced
by delirium at ungodly hours.
i am 2% the texture that misfits carved
trying so desperately to find a home in me
and 7% the vile aftertaste of when
they realized i was never inhabitable.
12% of me is composed of impossibilities
that i have tried so hard to believe in
like the 5% that wants to try and prove
that i was always one of those, too.
i am 9% the brittleness of my fingertips
that seek the warmth and stability of yours.
to soothe the 13% of nightmares that
threaten to overtake me when i’m alone
which conflicts with the 21% of me that knows
you deserve better than veins as doomed as mine.
"and 7% the vile aftertaste of when
they realized i was never inhabitable."
Suggested by PoetryOD "An impressively bodily exploration of the identity of self."
impermanent.
impermanent.i still ask why it was so easy
for my name to slip off your tongue
to lace into someone else's throat
as if to silence me, erase the stains
i've left on your lips. it choked
oxygen needed to keep burning:
it was cold. for months
i left my insides to rot underneath
the rib cage that would entrap me
with what would not leave my veins:
your promises. they are nothing
but carbon, now. finally, i have learned
to accept i did not deserve this. and i'm sure
you took her to be every bit like starshine:
glistening sheen on her skin,
vapor-thin vows in her voicebox,
long-dead light of the look in her eyes.
"i still ask why it was so easy
for my name to slip off your tongue
to lace into someone else's throat"
Suggested by PoetryOD "A poem dense with imagery that ignites the imagination."
lunacy.
lunacy.what the moon teaches us is
no one exists as a constant.
some days you will orbit elsewhere.
the angles of light that
make up the shadows of you
will keep moving.
it is the same with the ocean
and how it does not meet
the shore the same each time:
some days it will come crashing,
eroding: or it comes back to kiss
its edges over and over
there are some days i am more
of a tsunami. there will be days
you will be eclipsed.
and i don't mind this. the moon is
up in the sky but the ocean still feels
the weight of its pull, always.
i want to drown in the
push and pull of your gravity
in all the ways that's possible.
i could get used to the
different phases of this:
i could get used to our lunacy.
"some days it will come crashing,
eroding: or it comes back to kiss
its edges over and over"
Suggested by PoetryOD "Having grown up by the sea in a harbour town this idea really stuck with me and resonated deeply."
