The Inevitability of Individuality

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 12, 2013, 10:10 AM
I've been working on this for quite a while and I really hope you guys enjoy the result. I was looking through my favourites and it struck me how images with a similar composition can look so different, particularly of people. The phrase "The inevitability of individuality" came to me, and thus this project was born. Now, posting it, it feels like a piece of artwork in itself but sadly all the images belong to other people (click through and fave!). In any case the point of this art piece is to remind us all that no matter what we do we are uniquely ourselves. There's no point, and no need, to try and be someone else. You're perfect as you are.

Down the right hand side of this journal is a list of things that make up a personality... I asked for help from my watchers for this and I would like to thank bunocerous, camelopardalisinblue, Sister-to-the-Queen, Kyndsie, litfuse55, Phantasm1, shehrozeameen, KyaniteArcher, cskadoz, leyghan, nightshade-keyblade, GhostOfTheEmptyGrave, Eventua, Soul-Daemon, AskYukiNagato-Chan, Undomiel321, SolarApple, Wataqo, BradyMajor, SheDares, Saroda, NamelessShe, witwitch, ieatrosepetals, Ravenshymn and miontre for their contributions and thoughts. What struck me as amazing, and so inspiring, was that not one person said "how they look". Something to think about.

This is everything I love, in writing, in stories, in imagination, in real life.

It's beautiful, and I feel honoured that I had even the smallest part in contributing to this. Thank you.

I work with the same model [Mrs a*] in the same locations, over and over again. Obviously, there must be many similarities between indivdual works, but they all look different to me. Not only that but they look truly individual in the sense that there is not much work on dA that is really very like ours. Individuality is truly inevitable. Even if I had been cloned, the clone would have occupied its own space, seen the world fromits own point of view and had its own formative experiences. It would not be 'another copy of me' despite being idental genetically. He would be his own person. He might or might not have a similar approach and tastes when it comes to photography. Judge for youself by visiting the Mrs aegiandyad* folder of our gallery aegiandyad.deviantart.com/gall… .

Is there anyone whose been here more than a year who wouldn't instantly recognise a new Xantipa2 deviation when they saw one? Or be able to tell a genuine Bibire or Ainitolonen from something by someone else?

I worry about the effacement of individuality involved in 'fan' art that slavishly imitates the styles of the professionals, be individuality is unavoidable even there. Everyone has there own style. I have several.

Just as an exercise I Googled La Vielle Entiere Max Ernst images www.google.co.uk/search?q=La+V… . It's immediately apparent that there will never be another Max Ernst, but what's image number thirteen? Anyone could tell that isn't his. In fact it's one of mine!

This is so much more complex than what I would do for myself.  A picture of a pen, a book, and Vanguard.  That is all.

Whoever mentioned mispronounced words and hating comic sans - let me hug you with all the affection in this world :XD:

Also, I'd like to contribute this artwork to your fantabulous feature:

 - since in my opinion, the feeling about it also adds volume to the amazing project you've created here :la: - a ready handbook for those who seek  that fleeting inspiration - which has been caught so expertly and woven within these words and phrases for us to enjoy and our creativity flourish :aww:

Thank you :rose:
